1. Who we are
Matchstick Sport (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us" or "our") provides Matchstick Hockey Team Management (the "App"), a tool that helps field hockey coaches and managers organise teams, opponents, matches and squad lineups.
We are based in South Africa. Matchstick Sport (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for personal information that we process in connection with the App, where applicable under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information may be processed when you use the App, how it is handled, and your rights in relation to that information.
2. The short version
Team information that you enter into the App, such as player information, opponents, matches and lineups, is stored locally on your device during normal use of the App. We do not receive, view or store this information on our servers.
We collect limited technical diagnostic information through Sentry only if you choose to send diagnostics in the App. You can decline that choice, and you can turn it off later in Settings. We use that information to identify, investigate and fix crashes and other technical problems.
We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
If you export or share information from the App, such as a lineup image, that information may be sent to the service or person you choose to share it with.
3. Information you enter into the App
You may enter information such as:
Players: name, surname and photograph.
Opponents: club name and team name.
Matches: match information and associated squad lineups.
This information is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to or stored by us as part of the App's normal operation.
You are responsible for the information you enter into the App and for controlling access to your device and any information that you choose to share from the App.
4. Information about other people
The App may allow you to enter information about other people, including players.
Names and photographs may constitute personal information under POPIA. Some players may also be children under the age of 18.
You should only enter information about another person where you are permitted to do so. Where applicable, this includes obtaining any consent or other authorisation required by law, including any requirements relating to children.
Because player information is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers during normal App operation, we do not have access to the player information that you enter into the App.
5. Information we collect automatically
If you choose to send diagnostics, we use Sentry, provided by Functional Software, Inc., to receive technical error, crash and diagnostic information. If you do not opt in, the App does not send diagnostic information or Session Replays to Sentry.
Depending on the circumstances and our configuration of Sentry, diagnostic information may include device type, operating system and version, App version, technical error and crash information, information about recent App activity leading up to an error, technical identifiers, IP address and other network information, and other diagnostic information associated with the operation of the App.
When diagnostics are turned on, Sentry's Session Replay functionality helps us understand and reproduce problems. Session Replays are collected from a limited proportion of normal sessions and from sessions associated with errors. Sentry's mobile replay functionality is configured to mask text and images before replay data leaves your device. Session Replay does not run while diagnostics are turned off.
We do not intentionally send player names, player photographs, team information, match information or lineup information to Sentry. However, diagnostic information may contain other information generated by the App or device where that information is necessary to diagnose a technical problem.
We use this diagnostic information only to identify, investigate and fix technical problems, improve App stability and improve the reliability of the App.
6. Sharing lineup images
The App may allow you to export a lineup or other information as an image and share it using your device's sharing functionality.
When you choose to share an image, you control where it is sent, such as to a messaging application, email service or social media platform.
Once you share an image with another person or service, it is outside our control and may be subject to that person's or service's own privacy practices.
Please consider carefully whether you are permitted to share information about players, particularly photographs or information relating to children.
7. Device permissions
The App may request access to device features such as:
Camera, where you choose to take a player photo.
Photo library, where you choose an existing photo for a team logo or a player.
Sharing an exported image uses the system share sheet. The App does not request a separate permission to save photos.
You can manage these permissions through your device's operating-system settings.
8. Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share your team information with third parties as part of the App's normal operation.
If you choose to send diagnostics, we share that diagnostic information with Sentry, provided by Functional Software, Inc., as a service provider for technical diagnostics. We do not share diagnostic information with Sentry while this choice is turned off.
Our Sentry organisation uses Sentry's EU data region. Sentry's EU region is hosted in Frankfurt, Germany, and event-related data, including errors and Session Replays, is stored in the selected region.
Certain Sentry account, organisation and integration metadata may be processed or stored outside the EU, including in the United States. We use contractual and other appropriate safeguards for applicable cross-border processing.
We may also disclose information where required or permitted by applicable law, regulation or legal process.
9. Security
Information stored locally by the App is protected by the security mechanisms available on your device, including operating-system security and any passcode, password or biometric protection you have enabled.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect diagnostic information that we process, including protection of information in transit.
You are responsible for keeping your device secure and maintaining appropriate device security settings.
10. Retention and deletion
Team information entered into the App is stored locally on your device and remains there until you delete it or it is otherwise removed from the device.
We do not maintain a server-side copy of this information.
Diagnostic information processed through Sentry is retained in accordance with the retention period applicable to our Sentry plan. Our current Sentry Developer plan provides 30 days of data retention.
11. Your rights under POPIA
Subject to the conditions and limitations provided by POPIA, you may have rights to:
Request confirmation of whether we hold personal information about you.
Request access to personal information that we hold about you.
Request correction or deletion of personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, outdated or unlawfully obtained or retained, where applicable.
Object to certain processing of your personal information.
Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
Because most information entered into the App is stored only on your device and is not accessible to us, we generally cannot access, retrieve, correct or delete that information on your behalf. You can manage that information directly within the App or on your device.
For diagnostic information, we will assist with a request where we are reasonably able to identify and locate the relevant information.
To exercise your rights or ask questions about this Privacy Policy, contact us using the details in Section 14.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
12. Future changes to the App
We may introduce additional features in the future, including user accounts, sign-in functionality, cloud storage or synchronisation.
If these changes result in us processing additional personal information, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any notices or obtain any consent required by applicable law.
We will not represent that information remains exclusively on your device if the App's functionality changes so that information is transmitted to or stored by us.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
The "Last updated" date at the beginning of this policy indicates when it was most recently updated.
Where appropriate, we will notify users of material changes through the App, our website or another appropriate method.
